Chapter One: A Bumpy Cart Ride

What an interesting litte town...

The party begins at the church service.

FATHER TOM

"Welcome, my children… We gather here on this holy day to worship our sisters of light and life. Let us open our hearts to them, and bow our heads in prayer. Our great ladies of light… The reason for our very existence… Mentem, Corpus, Animae… We thank you for this, our congregation, and this time we share with each other. We pray for health in our community and in Little Pine as we continue to deal with the loss of Morgan, our beloved mother in the church… We now come to you in silence for the prayers we hold captive in our hearts… Mentem, Corpus, Animae… We pray in your name. Amen."

Father Tom sets down and opens a large book.

FATHER TOM

"I see we have some visitors today. New faces are always welcome. I hope to continue seeing you all here… it warms my heart to see such a large congregation."

The doors are burst open as a man in overalls and a torn flannel runs in. His face has a large claw mark. The man screams,

ISAAC

"HELP! Oh please help me, a beast, something of the devil! It came out of the woods! I got this here scratch—barely made it out alive—fer proof!"

The party takes to their feet and follows the man, using the tractor to transport them faster.

Once they finally encounter the beast, it’s too dark to see…

In front of them is what looks to be a hound… though it is missing its fur and is skinny enough to see its bones. The hound’s skin is leathery and reeks of rot. Upon further inspection, the creature is missing its eyes and lower jaw. Bloodied snaggled teeth protrude from what is left, more than there should be for certain. It emits a low whine, and their attention is drawn to the pulsing mass on its back. Oddly enough, it seems to be the most alive part of the thing. It’s fleshy and soaked in blood. Eyes and teeth seem to be growing out of it, the eyes stare the party down.

After fighting this ferocious beast, Pyrith was infected with some sort of illness by contact with a dark sort of substance. Luckily, his friend Nord the Elf was able to find an answer in the Medicinal Journal of a doctor P. F. Troph hidden in the old light house. Together with Nord, the party, consisting of Pyrith, Dilitrio, Helios, and Odys, now set sail toward a mysterious hospital in search of a cure…
